Tips and Hints using my paste!
I get a lot of questions about what can you do and what can you not do with my paste! You are only limited my your imagination!!! Just remember this is a "Decorative" paste. Not food sate but non toxic! What does that mean. Don't eat off of it but if you do and swallow a chunk... you will be ok!
You can use my paste on any surface you like.. here are some samples!
Wood - Under or over base coat!
Tin - Great on primed or rusted tin!
Glass - Etched is the prefer method! * You can use enamels on top of it as well!
Fabric - Pre-washed fabric, heat set , was in a pillow case. You can sew over it!
Canvas - Over or under oils.
Paper - Great for scrap booking
Ceramic - Over or under base coat. Great for repairing cracked bisque!
Myths of using my paste:
I get asked all the time "Can I put this in my dishwasher", well yes! But I ask "WHY?" If you want something permanent do it in my fired product!!! I can put my cat in the dish washer but that does not mean that I should!! This is DECORATIVE! I have had some that have survived just fine. But I can not guarantee it. So if and when a piece come off and gets stuck in the drain and the plumber comes and hands you that $300 bill...remember "I" told you not to! Did he?
What at about etched glass vs. non etched glass? It "WILL" work on both surfaces, but come on your a smart painter, think about it. If you etch glass, it gives it a tooth to hold the product, thus it will be there permanently. If it is smooth glass.....well buy beware! After all my work... I would rather have etched glass.
Fabric painting. We have tested this to the hilt this summer. And we found that you can use heat set paints on "top" of the paste when it is dry. But you have to use a Teflon sheet. We even sewed right on top of that! But when washing like any decorative paint, put in a pillow case when washing.
Finally.............. I get asked this the most. Can I tint or color the paste! I have been telling you yes since day 1!! BUT here is why I do not recommend it. First and foremost you are a "decorative" painter, which means to me you are smart, innovative, creative and don't like being told what you can and can not do with something. Rules do not apply right! I don't like the fact that someone tells me "here's your green"... when it is "there" green. Think about this to, my paste like most are white in it's original form, add color to it and tada you have a pastel! You may not want a pastel! So use it as is and your talent to paint on top of it as "you" desire, NOT as someone tell you should paint! Besides, if they are offering you a pastel color, you are paying "them" to tint it with the same stuff you can! Do it your self with my dimensional paste if you feel the need! Don't be ripped off!!!!
